Know, Learn, And Live

picalttag

'The Lonely Patient' by Michael Stein. This is a must-read for doctors, medical students, caregivers, people living with pain/disease, and people who know someone living with pain/disease. Having lived with varying degrees of pain daily for the past fifteen years or so, I found this eBook to be an accurate representation of what living with pain is like. Michael Stein, in his research and interviews, has been able to capture in words the experience of pain - from both the insider and outsider's points of view. This is a wonderfully readable eBook for anyone who has been a patient or has provided care for them.

'The Bullet's Yaw' by Dustin W. Ballard. A quick and powerful read full of thought-provoking, intriguing and galvanizing facts, reflections, and anecdotes. Anyone who is concerned about the state of health care today and increasing gun violence in our schools and communities should read this book and pass it on to others. I will pass on a Discount on either or both of these eBook Titles by using the Coupon Code below at checkout.

Lonely Patient, The eBook edition by Stein, Michael
When someone is diagnosed with a serious illness, he or she is taking the first step on an overwhelmingly challenging and confusing journey. For many, it is as if they are traveling to someplace entirely new and they must go there alone, with only faded directions back to their old lives. Often, even their loved ones can only guess at what they must be experiencing.

The Bullet's Yaw (Adobe Reader) eBook edition by Ballard, Dustin W
During a vengeful rampage, a deranged former security guard had fired a hollow point bullet into Mains' truck. The bullet's path through steel slowed its velocity, causing it to tumble sideways when it collided with Mains, a phenomenon that ballistics experts call the "bullet's yaw." The bullet's impact and ensuing yaw were over in a blink, but the effects were profound.

Complex And Dirty

picalttag

'Dirty' by Meredith Maran. This eBook is not an "erotic romance". It is a deeply felt novel about fractured families, dark, miserable secrets, how those secrets mold our adult lives in ways we cannot imagine or frequently manage. Dirty not only weaves a complex character and story line but pulls it all off while putting into print some of your steamiest fantasies.

'Are You Crazy?' by Andrew M. Williams. Williams takes a serious subject and presents it in an entertaining way without doing insult to the seriousness of the matter at hand. He has culled questions from a variety of psychological tests and you are encouraged to answer these questions, score yourself, and analyze your responses based on certain criteria. These "quizzes" are generally "subjective" in nature, that is, they deal with what is called the "affective" domain rather than the "cognitive" domain of human existence. Did I just say all that? I retained more than I thought or Knew… Use the Coupon Code below to receive a Discount on either of these two eBook Titles.

Dirty eBook edition by Maran, Meredith

Me, Myself, And I...

picalttag

'The Evolving Self' by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. I found this book interesting, thought provoking, and at times disturbing and even depressing. What is most significant about this work is its exploration of the veils that our culture and its members live with, and what could be beyond them. It summarizes the concept of Flow and then takes us beyond into what we can actually do in communities to make a difference in the evolutionary epic. I find this book to be very practical.

'Thoughts From The Heart Of The Soul' by Gary Zukav. I keep a copy of this eBook on my computer. Almost every single day I randomly flip to another page and read its message. I am amazed to find how many times I end up flipping to the same page! I am convinced that this book is helping me to face life's issues every time I look at it. A very inspirational book! This book is an excellent meditative companion for those who have read Gary Zukav's other books--"Seat of the Soul," "The Heart of the Soul," and "The Mind of the Soul" as well as "Soul Stories" and "The Dancing Wu Li Masters." If you have read any of theses eBook Titles then ad this to your collection. Below is a Coupon Code to receive a Discount on either of these two eBook Titles.

The Mind Is A Wonderful Thing

picalttag

'The Family That Couldn't Sleep' by D.T. Max. This eBook was so fascinating, I was compelled to email the author and congratulate him on his work. The Family That Couldn't Sleep tells the thought provoking story of an emerging medical mystery that is likely to affect all of us in our lifetime. Woven into the story are fascinating details regarding the history, politics and evolving research of a potential health related epidemic in our country. Max is able to communicate a complex disease phenomena in a gripping fashion that is also accessible to lay people such as myself...medical degree not required!
'The Emotion Machine:' by Marvin Minsky. Humans can of course think in multiple domains. Indeed, a good human chess player can also be a good mathematician or a good chef. The ability to think in multiple domains has been christened as "commonsense" by many psychologists and professional educators, and those skeptical of the possibility of machine intelligence. It is thought by many that in order for a machine to be considered as truly intelligent or even indeed to possess any intelligence at all, it must possess "commonsense", in spite of the vague manner in which this concept is frequently presented in both the popular and scientific literature. On a lighter note, below there is a Coupon Code so you can receive a Discount on these two eBook Titles.

The Emotion Machine: Commonsense Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, and the Future of the Human Mind eBook edition by Minsky, Marvin
"In this mind-expanding book, scientific pioneer Marvin Minsky continues his groundbreaking research, offering a fascinating new model for how our minds work. He argues persuasively that emotions, intuitions, and feelings are not distinct things, but different ways of thinking. By examining these different forms of mind activity, Minsky says, we can explain why our thought sometimes takes the form of carefully reasoned analysis and at other times turns to emotion. He shows how our minds progress from simple, instinctive kinds of thought to more complex forms, such as consciousness or self-awareness.

The Nose Knows

picalttag

'Scent of Desire' by Rachel Herz. ... The nose knows. Pity olfaction, the least celebrated of the five senses: In one poll, people ranked smell as the sense they'd mind losing the least. But, says Herz (Psychology/Brown Univ.), one of a handful of researchers doing groundbreaking work on the psychology of smell, the ability to smell the world around us shapes and informs every part of our lives-particularly our emotional existence. When robbed of a sense of smell-whether through head injury, severe depression or other cause-we lose a vital connection to the material world and its sensual pleasures. In thoughtful and accessible writing, Herz explains why it is that smells act as such direct conduits to emotional memories. Herz explains "why we smell" is perhaps the most fascinating. Smell not only underlies the ability to tell which meat is rotten and which is fresh, but also potently affects sexual attraction, and not as Coco Chanel might have thought (the grand dame of fashion once said, "Without perfume, women have no future."). Before you apply deodorant tomorrow morning, consider that it is in fact the natural body odors we spend so much time trying to cloak informs us of who we will choose to mate with and who we will avoid. A delightfully unexpected blend of personal anecdotes, pop-cultural erudition and scientific understanding.
'Shyness' my Bernardo J. Carducci. This is the first book I've read on shyness and it's written very well. It seems that books like this are either written for an audience of Ph.D's who perform social research for a living, or for an audience with an 8th grade education. This book is neither - it delivers straight forward content in an articulate fashion that is both easy to grasp and enjoyable to read. I have tried several of the techniques described in the book and so far have had some pretty good luck. Those of you who know me don't know that I'm pretty shy. I guess my secrets out. Be sure to check below for the Discount Code to receive a Discount on these two eBook titles.

Scent of Desire, The eBook edition by Herz, Rachel
The first and definitive book on the psychology of smell, The Scent of Desire traces the importance of smell in our lives, from nourishment to procreation to our relationships with the people closest to us and the world at large. Smell was the very first sense to evolve and is located in the same part of the brain that processes emotion, memory, and motivation. To our ancestors, the sense of smell wasn't just important, it was crucial to existence and it remains so today. Our emotional, physical, even sexual lives are profoundly shaped by both our reactions to and interpretations of different smells.

Useless Information and Heaven

picalttag

Do you think we need to know Useless information when we get to Heaven? These two eBooks do not have much in common but I found them to be entertaining and thoughtful. I read these two titles based on the reviews. The book of Useless Information is just that... Useless but a fun read and it's nice to be able to casually throw in an interesting fact about a topic at a party or get together that most likely nobody knows about. I found it to boost my ego a bit for people perceive you as the guy/gal who knows things... Yeah ok... The topic that nobody really knows about is what is Heaven like. However, not enough to look forward to experience the glories of heaven (Yet). I can wait my turn, whenever that may be. I will say that after reading this eBook I now have some tools that will help if I loose a loved one or dealing with death. I recommend this eBook for it may put death or tragedy in a better place for you mentally. Check out the coupon code at the bottom of this Blog for a discount on these two titles.

The Book of Useless Information answers these teasers and is packed with facts and figures that will captivate you--and anyone who shares your joy in the pursuit of pointless knowledge
